Sain thee, seelie wights!
Are you buying books you don’t even know if you’ll like?
Maybe you’ve done it before: been attracted by a striking cover, or a clever blurb. A few chapters in, you get that sinking realization that the book is not for you.
Reading a free book is a good way to find out whether you like an author’s work.
Each week we gather selections of free books by a range of science-fiction, fantasy and romantasy authors. You can explore freely, and walk away at any point. Try something new without spending anything, and you might find a book you really love.
This treasure trove changes frequently, so choose your selection while they’re available. The collections are meant to include only clean reads—no gore, violence, or smut. While we can’t personally check every title, most authors do play by the rules.
Readers often assume that the best books must be the ones they pay for, but many excellent authors offer free titles to introduce new readers to their work.
Have a browse through these free books and pick whichever ones catch your eye. If they’re not for you, you can simply move on to others.
Fingers crossed that you find a new favourite!
October Fantasy Freebies
Genres: Sci-Fi / Fantasy
This promotion starts on October 01, 2026 and runs through October 31, 2026.
This promo does not allow erotica, but plots with romance or romance subplots are fine.
Clean Fairytales/Fairytale Retellings
Genres: Romance / Fantasy / Sci-Fi
This promotion starts on October 01, 2026 and runs through October 31, 2026.
This promo offers full books, no sample chapters or excerpts! It’s a promo for clean so PG-13 fantasy romance freebies with fairytale vibes. They don’t have to be retellings. As the promo organiser says, ‘They can just feel like a fairytale like “Once Upon a Broken Heart” isn’t a fairytale retelling but everyone thinks of it as a fairytale story.’
There are no open-door sex scenes, but fade-to-black is okay for this promo as long as it keeps to level 3 on the Reading Gals guide. I have no idea what that is, because I cannot find it online, but “no open-door” and “fade-to-black” seems to mean “up to Level 2” on Fractal Enigma.
Coming very soon: Free Epic Sci-Fi & Fantasy Romance
Genres: Romance, Fantasy and Sci-Fi
This promotion starts on October 15, 2026 and runs through November 15, 2026.
Free Epic Sci-Fi & Fantasy Romance offers story-driven speculative romance (sci-fi, fantasy, romantasy, and paranormal) where love is central to the narrative and emotional stakes run high. Contemporary romance genres such as billionaire, small-town, mafia, and motorcycle club are not included.
The promo is for readers who like epic and imaginative romantic stories set in galaxies, mythic empires, alternate histories, futuristic realms, and supernatural destinies. Whether the story features space rogues, alien royalty, fae dynasties, AI lovers, or time-crossed soulmates, this promo is for romance-first stories with expansive worlds and emotional depth.
Some titles may include explicit, spicy, or steamy scenes, but there isn’t supposed to be any erotica (where sexual content is the primary focus). Romance must be a core part of the story, not an afterthought.
Full books, as well as samples or excerpts are on offer.
